Cyprus Christmas Villages 2026: All Nine of them, and How to See Three in One Weekend
Every year, as the evenings draw in, a handful of mountain villages in Cyprus put up the lights, set out wooden stalls and turn their old squares into small Christmas markets. They're nothing like the big city fairs. Think woodsmoke, carols drifting down stone lanes, local honey and sweets on trestle tables, and someone's grandmother handing out loukoumades. This year there are nine of them, including one brand-new addition, and three are an easy drive from our village.

The nine Christmas villages for 2026
The Christmas villages run from 21 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. Until 20 December they open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays; from 21 December to 6 January they open every day. Each village has its own programme of stalls, crafts, wine and food workshops, guided walks and events, published on the Visit Cyprus Christmas Villages page.
This year's nine are:
Agros (Limassol district)
Kyperounta (Limassol district)
Lofou (Limassol district), new for 2026
Kakopetria (Nicosia district)
Kalopanagiotis (Nicosia district)
Fikardou (Nicosia district)
Lefkara (Larnaca district)
Statos–Agios Fotios (Paphos district)
Deryneia (Famagusta district)

The ones closest to Apsiou
Three of the nine sit in our own corner of the island, the Limassol hill country. Agros and Kyperounta are neighbours high in the Pitsilia region, on the way up to Troodos, which is about 45 minutes from Apsiou. Agros is known for its rose water and cured meats, Kyperounta for its mountain views and crisp air, and in December both smell of chestnuts and woodsmoke. Lofou, this year's newcomer, is a little stone village of restored houses and cobbled lanes, the kind of place where you end up staying for a second coffee. If you want to plan the drives, our Explore the Area guide shows what else is nearby.

Two or three Christmas villages in one weekend
This is where staying in Apsiou makes sense. Rather than driving up and back from the coast each time, you can base yourself in the village and see two or three Christmas villages over a single weekend. Spend Saturday in Agros and Kyperounta, which are only a short drive apart, and come back to a warm stone house for dinner. On Sunday, go to Lofou for a slower morning, or cross the mountain to Kakopetria if you'd like a third market. Eleni's Cottage is a cozy fully heated studio for the cold mountain evenings, and Blue Cottage has room for a family or a few friends sharing the trip, and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows after your christmas village tour.

The weekends from late November to mid-December are the busiest in the mountains, so if you have a particular date in mind, it's worth planning early. Check availability and book your Christmas weekend, and we'll gladly share our own tips for the markets when you arrive.
